Named for the river forming the western boundary of Livingston Parish, the church has, from its beginning, been a vibrant part of the Eastern Louisiana Baptist Association. Most of the first members were part of the Allen family, who had recently migrated from South Carolina. A circuit preacher who often rode trails used by bear hunters, Reverend William B. Allen served as pastor for forty-five years. Land was donated and a building erected in 1856; the pastor’s annual salary was fifty dollars. Christian education was important, so a Sunday School was formed by 1883, and the first Vacation Bible School in 1934—forty children, one room, no air conditioning. The tide of events brought more growth and new ministry opportunities. During the Depression, a storeroom was built where members could bring farm produce as their tithe. The corn, eggs, potatoes, and syrup were then shared with those in need. Whether caring for people, sending missionaries, or training children in the way they should go, ABC has been hard at work for 165 years. May the Lord find us doing so until he returns. . .

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Ten of our most basic statements of faith.
WHAT WE BELIEVE photo

We believe the Bible. The Bible is divinely inspired and is God’s perfect revelation of Himself to man. The Scripture is totally true and trustworthy and as such is the supreme and final standard for all human conduct and religious belief.

We believe in one God. God is a living, personal, intelligent, spiritual, and eternal being. God reveals himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is perfect and absolute in knowledge and power.

We believe Jesus Christ is the only Savior. Christ is the eternal Son of God. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. Jesus perfectly revealed the will of God. He was completely human yet completely without sin. He died a substitutionary death on the cross to make provision for man’s salvation. He was raised from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion and later ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God the Father. Christ will personally return to this world in power and glory to complete His redemptive mission.

We believe man is uniquely created in the image of God. God created them male and female. In the beginning man was innocent of sin and endowed by his Creator with the freedom of choice. By his free choice man brought sin into the human race. Because of this nature of sin, as soon as man is capable of moral action, he transgresses God’s law and is under condemnation for sin. Only the grace of God can bring man back into fellowship with God.

We believe salvation is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as LORD and Savior. There is no salvation apart from Jesus Christ. Repentance (turning from sin) and faith (turning in devotion to Christ) are two expressions of salvation. Salvation is both immediate and eternal and brings a change of heart and mind and action and attitude.

We believe the church is the body of Christ. A New Testament church is the autonomous local congregation of baptized believers coming together by faith in fellowship for service and witness for Christ in the world.

We believe in The LORD’S Day. Sunday, the first day of the week, is The LORD’S Day. It is a Christian institution commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and should include public and private worship and spiritual devotion to Christ.

We believe in evangelism and missions. It is our duty and the necessary expression of Christian love to share the witness of Christ with the lost.

We believe in Christian stewardship. All our material and spiritual resources are gifts from God and are to be managed according to the teaching of Scripture. Our time, talent, and money are to be used for the glory of God and the good of others.

We believe in the family. God established the family as the foundational institution of human society. The family is composed of persons related by marriage, blood, and adoption. Marriage is God’s covenant union between one man and one woman for a lifetime. While the husband and wife are equal worth before God, they are unique in their responsibility and calling in the family. Children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord.

While these are only ten of our most basic statements of faith, they serve to form the foundation of what we believe. A fuller expression of our beliefs and the scriptural bases upon which they are build can be found in The Baptist Faith and Message. Please feel free to contact the church if you would like to receive a free copy of this fuller statement of faith.

CHILDCARE

It is our goal to provide the safest, best possible childcare for your children.

Our Nursery Suite is located in D Building, directly behind the Welcome Center.  It is an essential ministry to the parents and children of Amite Baptist Church.  It provides an opportunity for parents to worship without worry of their children's well-being, and it provides an opportunity for many caring and nurturing volunteers and staff to serve throughout the year.  Another benefit of having a nursery is that it frees many more people to teach and to serve in Sunday School, Choir, and other ministries.

Your child's needs are our utmost concern.  Through guided play, care, and conversation, we will introduce children to God's house, a place full of love where their self-esteem and worth will increase during these first years of development.

VISUAL PAGING SYSTEM
When your child attends the Nursery and Preschool departments, you will be asked to sign them in.  In turn, you and your child will be assigned a number.  This number serves as a security check as well as a pager number.  Should your child need you during worship, the number will appear on either side of the sanctuary, alerting you to come to your child's room.

BUILDING BLOCKS TEAM
If your child 4 years old and younger attends regularly, we ask that you help periodically in our nursery during Sunday morning worship.  This is called our Building Blocks Team.

YOUR CHILD'S HEALTH
We operate a Well-Baby Program.  For the protection of all the children in our ministry we cannot accept a child with a runny nose, fresh cold (four days or less), fever, rash, persistent cough, diarrhea,or any other signs of illness.

BABY DEDICATION                                                                                                         Baby Dedication is a time for parents to publicly pledge to raise their child to love God and know His Son.  We desire a true partnership with families as they raise their children to love the Lord. We believe the baby dedication gets families off to a great beginning.  To find out more about having your bundle of joy dedicated, contact us.

HOW DO I JOIN

How do I become a member of Amite Baptist?
HOW DO I JOIN photo
More Info

Becoming a member of Amite Baptist Church can be one of the more exciting, meaningful, and important decisions you can make. The Bible teaches us to associate ourselves with a local church (Hebrews 10:24-25) by a personal faith commitment to Jesus Christ expressed through baptism by immersion as a symbol of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and as a symbol of one’s new life Christ (Roman’s 6:3-4).

You can become a member of Amite Baptist Church, by (1) Confession of Faith and Baptism, (2) Letter, or (3) Statement.

  1. Becoming a member by Confession of Faith and Baptism allows you to express your faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. This can be done at the end of any worship service during the invitation. During the invitation individuals are invited to come forward and acknowledge their commitment to Christ or to make other personal spiritual decisions. Soon after your Confession of Faith in Christ, a convenient time will be set for your baptism as a symbol of your new life in Christ. The pastor, a staff member, or one of the members of Amite Baptist Church is available to explain this more fully.
  1. Becoming a member by Letter allows you to inform us that you have already confessed your faith in Jesus Christ and have already been baptized by immersion as a symbol of that commitment to Jesus Christ and have already become a member of another Baptist church. At your instruction, we will write to that church and receive the transfer of your membership to Amite Baptist Church. The term “Letter” simply refers to the written transfer of your membership from one Baptist Church to another.
  1. Becoming a member by Statement allows you to inform us that you have already confessed your faith in Jesus Christ and have already been baptized by immersion as a symbol of that commitment to Jesus Christ but for some reason a letter from that church cannot be obtained. This may occur if the church has moved or no longer exists, if one’s commitment and baptism occurred during military service, or for a number of other reasons for which a record does not exist. The term “Statement” simply refers to one’s good faith statement of prior faith and baptism and the recognition that no specific record of such exists.

You can use the form below to express you desire to become a member of AmiteBaptistChurch. After completing and submitting the form below, you will be contacted to follow up on your decision to become a member of Amite Baptist Church.
